This is where I met the love of my life and future wife, Kathy.
We had both previously been married and gone through a divorce. We also both had custody of our children, she had a boy and a girl and I also had a boy and a girl. We had both promised our kids a trip to the beach, little did I know that this trip would change everyone's life.
I arrived at Zuma beach with my two children around 10:00am driving around the parking lot trying to find a spot. The first spot I found was too far away from the restrooms, so I looked for a spot closer to them, I did. I pulled into a spot and the kids ran down to the ocean to get wet while I unloaded our chairs and blanket. At around 11:00 I noticed my children were playing with two other children, when a beautiful woman walked up to me and asked if it was ok for her kids to be playing with my kids and if we were hungry. I asked her to join me on the blanket and she brought over some food and all of us sat down to have some lunch. As the kids resumed playing in the water, Kathy and I just sat and talked for several hours, until it started to get late and we all had to leave. As we packed up our belongings and walked to the parking lot, I asked her for her phone number, which she gave me. To our surprise, we were actually parked next to each other in the lot, go figure the odds on that.
I know you're supposed to wait a few days before you call a woman you just met, but I just couldn't wait, and I called her as soon as I got home to ask her out to dinner, she accepted my invitation. The following Friday, we met for dinner and had a wonderful night.
A week later she moved in with me, which was the beginning of a new life together that lasted 30+ wonderful years.
I still go to the spot we met to remember the great times we had together, until she passed away from a surgery accident.
